One thing that I like about this recipe is how quick and easy it is. It’s super simple but super delicious. I also like how modular it is. You can easily substitute ingredients and almost any snack you put in will taste good. For example, if you don’t really like popcorn, no worries, just use some chex cereal.
You can also easily modify the colors to make it more appropriate for other holidays such as red and blue M&Ms for Fourth of July.
Also if you can somehow resist eating the whole batch, for any leftovers, just store it in an airtight container such as a resealable bag.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels or 16-17 cups of popped popcorn
- 12 oz or so vanilla candy melt or coating/chocolate
- 1 ½ cups of pretzels
- 10 oz bag of Red and Green M&Ms
- Red and green sprinkles
Step 1: Melt Candy Melt/Chocolate
First, we will prepare our candy melt. If you are using the same candy coating that I have, we will only need 12 oz of it, so since it comes in a pound, we will only use 3/4ths of it. You can of course use as much as you want, but 12 ozs is good enough to coat everything without too much chocolate.
Next we’ll melt the melt. To do so, grab your candy melt and melt it in the microwave or on the stovetop. If you’re using the microwave, place it in a bowl and microwave it a minute at a time until it… well melts.
Step 2: Mix Together Popcorn & M&Ms
While we wait, we’ll make the popcorn mix. In a large bowl, add your popcorn. Then to that, toss in your pretzels and your M&Ms. Save a bit of your M&Ms so that you can top the popcorn mixture later.
Step 3: Combine Candy Melt & Popcorn
Once your coating is melted, pour about half of it over the popcorn and give it a little mix. Once everything is coated, pour the rest of the melt and give it a second coat until everything is evenly coated again.
Step 4: Transfer Coated Popcorn to Baking Sheet & Sprinkle w/ M&Ms & Sprinkles
When you’re ready, transfer it to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. And then before the coating sets, sprinkle the mixture with your leftover M&Ms and as many sprinkles as you like.
Step 5: Allow Mixture to Harden & Then Break Coated Popcorn into Pieces
Allow the mixture to cool and harden and then gently break it into pieces. And with that, your Santa Munch Christmas Popcorn is ready to eat.
