#100: Milk and Honey Iced Coffee

As I’ve gotten older, I have grown to appreciate the taste of coffee as well as the amazing effects of caffeine. And so, I’ve definitely been drinking a lot more coffee recently. Though, with the hot summer, it’s not particularly enjoyable drinking a hot liquid. So, I thought it would be fun to do another iced coffee recipe.

Last year, we made some Iced Coffee with Grass Jelly, which you, of course, can combine with this recipe, since the iced coffee I made in that video was pretty plain. The extra honey and vanilla flavor in this one will definitely pair well with the earthy grass jelly.

Ingredients:

  • Some coffee (premade cold brew or if you want to make it from your own beans, you will need ~1 cup of coarse ground beans and four cups of water or you’re short on time, you can brew hot coffee with 1/2 cup of coarse ground beans and four cups of water)
  • 1/4 cup or so of your favorite milk or creamer
  • 1/4 cup or so of honey and some more for topping
  • 1 tablespoon or so of vanilla extract
  • Some ice, of course
  • Some Whipped cream for topping, if desired

Special Equipment:

  • Large Jar for your cold brew or French Press/other coffee maker
Step 1: Make Coffee

First, we’ll make our coffee, so if you need to, grind your coffee beans into a coarse ground.

Step 1a: Cold Brew Version

If you want to make it with cold brew, grab a large enough glass container or pitcher and add in a cup of your coffee grounds with your 4 cups of water and refrigerate this for at least 12 hours to up to 48 hours.

Step 1b: Hot Coffee Version

If you don’t have enough time to make cold brew, you can brew it hot. I will be using a French press, but brew your coffee how you normally do it.

Heat up some water to 200° F or just before boiling. Place your 1/2 cup of coffee grounds into the carafe and then pour your hot water into the French press. Using a wooden spoon or chopstick, stir the grounds in the water to ensure that all the grounds are wet. Don’t use a metal utensil, because you might crack the hot glass.

Then, place the French press cover over the glass but don’t push the press down yet and let this sit for a minute. Then, using your wooden instrument, stir your coffee again to break any crust created by the beans. Next, cover this again with your cover without pushing down the press and let this sit now for 3-4 minutes.

Then, once the coffee is brewed, gently push down the plunger until you fully separate the coffee from the grounds. Then, your coffee will be ready to use.

Step 2: Mix in Honey & Vanilla Extract

If using cold brew, when you’re ready to make your drink, grab 1/4 cup of hot water and mix in the honey until it dissolves to make a simple syrup and then mix this in with your cold brew.

If using hot coffee, you of course are able to dissolve the honey directly into the coffee, so do that.

Then, for either coffee mixture, add in your vanilla extract as well.

Step 3: Put Everything Together

Once your honey coffee is ready, grab a glass filled with ice, and pour in your coffee. Then, pour in your milk to your desired amount, add your whipped cream and honey toppings, if desired, and with that, your Milk and Honey Iced Coffee is ready to drink.
